GeoAfrika Surveys was appointed by the eThekwini Municipality Survey Department to conduct a detailed topographical survey of Dr Pixley Kaseme Street, between Shepstone Road and OR Tambo Parade, including the promenade. The survey was conducted to assist in planning the city’s future transportation network. The project area required a high level of detail but was also highly congested with vehicular and foot traffic. The survey therefore required a strategic data capture approach which included:
- Surveying at night to eliminate the obstructions of vehicles and pedestrians within the survey area.
- The utilization of terrestrial scanning to ensure fast but high-resolution data capture of site details and street furniture.
The survey methods ensured the elimination of data errors, cost reduction and a more detailed final product.
