In 2004, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport (KZN DOT) appointed GeoAfrika Technologies to implement and support an enterprise GIS for the organisation, capture and edit of over 60 000km of road network data. GeoAfrika Technologies has supported GIS and associated data environment at the KZN DOT from 2004 to present through a number of appointments. GeoAfrika Technologies is currently supporting the KZN DOT with data maintenance, software and data training, system development, website development and various data capture initiatives.

Scope:
  • Provide generic GIS managerial and technical support services.
  • Create, update and maintain the GIS web portal.
  • Refine the professional and operational GIS environment.
  • Substantially upgrade the digital spatial road network in a consolidated SDE-based geodatabase.
  • Review and upgrade the operational GIS platforms.
  • Establish the road data maintenance environment and protocols, and train staff therein.
  • Implement ArcGIS Server along with website support and development.
  • Capture and maintain the transportation network of KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Document, maintain and support the Corporate GIS.
  • Capture all historical road expropriations in the province.
